Hodgkins
and Cancer Resources
One of
the first things I did upon my diagnosis was get on the web and start hunting
for useful information. There's lots of information out there on
these topics, but like most web resources, lots of stuff is redundant,
or questionable, or even an outright waste of time. I hope that my
own hours spent sifting through everything might save someone else some
time. There are no "frivolous" or redundant links on this page -
if I didn't find the resource EXTREMELY useful, it won't be here.
Finally
- a word of caution - people with deadly illnesses are prime targets for
con artists and hucksters. Any page or email you come across that
claims to have THE answer to curing cancer or making you well is instantly
suspect. Use your common sense when evaluating the source of informaton.
There are no instant or easy answers to beating cancer - there are lots
of things you can try as part of an overall plan of good health, but don't
put all your eggs in one basket or expect a magic bullet that will do it
all for you. If something sounds too good to be true, it is.
OK,
on with the links -
Hodgkins
Disease Email List
This
is the single most useful resource I have found on the web. If you
have just been diagnosed with Hodgkins, or love someone who has - JOIN
THIS LIST! You will have instant access to a wonderful, dynamic group
of people who are surviving this disease and know just what you are going
through. You can ask for their help and advice, and they will give
it freely. Best of all, you will come to realize you are not alone
in this fight. The list is fairly high traffic, and you could end
up getting anywhere from 25 to 100 emails a day on really busy days.
If this turns out to be too much for you, you can also have the list delivered
to you in "digest" form, which will consolidate all the emails for one
day into one large email, which you'll get once a day. It's well
worth the extra traffic on your email account!
Li
Sparks Home Page/Hodgkins Pages
Li Sparks
has created one of the most comprehen- sive, useful collection of Hodgkins
pages on the net. As a survivor, she's been through it all, and has
written some extremely helpful informational pages for newcomers.
Her "New Patient
Infor- mation Pages" are a MUST if you have just been told you have
this disease. Folks like Lisa give me hope that the Internet really
can be a great informational resource.
Glen's
Hodgkins Pages
Yet another
survivor who has assembled an impressive array of information on this disease.
His FAQ (frequently asked questions) and list of things Patients Should
Do are particularly useful. He also has a powerful search engine
that will search for keywords across dozens of Hodgkins related sites.

Need
a laugh after all this heavy duty informational stuff? You will.
And Steve Saltman is just the guy to deliver it. A dose of sorely
needed comic relief. (Caution: Not for the easily offended!)
